The Rudy Project
The Rudy Project is a special partnership between the Wright Family and Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley to honor the memory of Mayor Rudy Wright. The goal of The Rudy Project is to raise $80,000 to build a Habitat home and $30,000 for a community area in the Northstone Subdivision in Hickory, NC.
Rudy was a long-time supporter of Habitat Catawba Valley, participating in many of our events like the Kiss a Cow contest and our house dedication ceremonies. He was a loved husband, father, grandfather, friend and mayor. His humble beginnings taught him about what it means to work hard and help others. He lived his life with passion and a great big smile.
"Several years ago, Rudy spoke at the dedication of one of our houses. He told the story of growing up in a home with no indoor plumbing, but lots of love and support,” said Mitzi Gellman, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley. “Rudy understood that our mission was less about building homes and more about strengthening families and communities. He understood the importance of a decent and affordable place to call home and how this can build stability and self-reliance for families. We could always count on Rudy's support and for that we will always be grateful."
Rudy’s philanthropy and commitment to giving back impacted people around our community and throughout the world. The Rudy Project will honor his legacy by providing a local family with the opportunity to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter and it will help build a community area so the residents of Northstone and their families can gather, play, and socialize.
