Construction Volunteers

All volunteers on our construction sites are scheduled, so be sure to call in advance.  We work year-round and welcome all individuals and groups regardless of skill level.

Opportunities are available for:

Individual Construction Volunteers

Construction takes place year round, and volunteers work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8am to noon, and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.  No special skills or tools are needed, but you must wear close-toed shoes—no sandals!  All volunteers must fill out a Waiver of Liability form to work on site.  If you have a lot of time to give, consider joining one of Habitat's regular crews or becoming an Americorps member for a year.  Call the Volunteer Coordinator at: (828) 328-4663 x309 or e-mail us for more information or to sign up for a workday.

Youth Construction Volunteers

All construction volunteers must be at least 14 years of age to do construction work.  Those 16-18 years old have some restrictions, and those aged 14-16 can only help with landscaping, painting and clean up.  All minors must have a parent/guardian fill out a Waiver of Liability and a Minors Permission Form to be allowed to work on site. For more information about other ways youth can get involved, click here.

Groups

Groups are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Group sizes can range from 5-12 volunteers.  Occasionally we may be able to accommodate up to 20 people depending on what type of work is available, but an ideal group size is no more than 12 people.

Groups are scheduled in half day (8am-noon) or full day (8am-3:30pm) shifts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays. To schedule your group, e-mail or call the Volunteer Coordinator at: (828) 328-4663 x309.

Businesses

Habitat currently offers Team Building days for businesses looking for a way to give back to the community while improving morale and learning new skills.  Team Building days are scheduled a month or two in advance on any day Wednesday-Saturday.

Benefits of Team Building include:

  • Improving communication, cooperation, and camaraderie
  • Promoting interaction with coworkers from all levels of your organization
  • Strengthening team spirit and morale
  • Helping forge bonds with clients while working toward a common goal
  • Raising the profile of your organization in the community

Nearly all Habitat construction is done by volunteers, except for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and masonry work.  Are you a skilled professional in one of these areas?  Consider donating your labor on a house!  All donations are tax deductible.
